Complex Stops 360 Dev, Releases Information on Common File Formats
>> From compl3x.wordpress.com:
I don’t wish to continue any programming on the subject of xbox 360 hacking/modding/reversing. This contains a plethera of information on the most common of Xbox 360 file formats: * Secure-Transacted File System(STFS) * File Allocation table For Xbox (FATX) * Xenon Executable(XEX)
This should help you learn the internals of these file formats and how they work. Most of the code is in C#, though the xex information is in C. I cannot claim legitamately that I created all of this, but the sources of who helped me are included in it. The FATX stuff was made by CLK, but is very similar to the FreeFATX/OpenFATX project I made a good while ago.I also updated it, though the version I updated is rather buggy (hoping CLK will add to the most current build, additions are in a text file in the project)I don’t know who created the xex information, though it was given to me by Mojobojo. I hope people learn from this, feel free to download at your will and try to use this for whatever purpose(legal purposes)
It has been fun, sadly the Xbox 360 modding scene has extremely gluttonous tendencies and there is no doubt I will see some of this packaged up in someone elses program. I will attempt to update this whenever possible, or when new things are found (XDBF maybe??)
Hopefully this will give you better understanding of the xbox and you enjoy whatever you do/make with this.
libxenon Improvements, N64 Emulator Demo Video
>> From Gligli on xboxhacker.org:
I think it's time to try to revive the free60/libxenon legal homebrew scene :) [note x-s: libxenon is a library for writing programs for the Xbox 360 with XeLL, without using any existing code as a basis]
I have submitted patches to libxenon [note x-s: see here] to try to make it more usable, it's still far from perfect but you can already do some stuff with it.
As a 'proof' of that, here's a preview vid of a Nintendo 64 emulator that uses libxenon:
It uses a dynamic recompiler emulation core, gfx rendering is HW accelerated and uses pixels shaders, and of course the 360 CPU runs full speed. It's still buggy, but as you can see it's quite fast, I have yet to do some multicore optimisations to try to make it even faster.
Now if anybody is interested in writing libxenon homebrew, I can try to help (I'm usually on #free60 on the OFTC IRC network).
Official Open-Source Kinect Drivers for PC Released by PrimeSense
>> From the PrimeSense press release:
PrimeSense (http://www.primesense.com), the industry leader in sensing and recognition solutions, announces the launch of its OpenNI (Open Natural Interaction) consortium, an industry-led, nonprofit organization formed to accelerate the introduction of Natural Interaction applications into the marketplace (http://www.openni.org).
PrimeSense OpenNI will formally debut at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), January 6-9 in Las Vegas, stand 36255, South Hall 4.
The role of OpenNI is to certify and promote the compatibility and interoperability of Natural Interaction devices, applications and middleware, while encouraging developers to build applications and create experiences that will shape the future of Natural Interaction. Examples of everyday Natural Interaction usage include:
The organization’s first initiative is an open source framework – the OpenNI framework – which provides an application programming interface (API) for writing applications around Natural Interaction. This API covers communication with both low level devices (e.g. vision and audio sensors), as well as high-level middleware solutions (e.g. for visual tracking, using computer vision).
PrimeSense also contributed its first proposal for an OpenNI standard as well as implementation of the OpenNI framework under open source license, royalty free license to PrimeSense NITE middleware modules all designed to work with OpenNI compliant devices such as PrimeSense’s development kits which are going to be available for purchase through PrimeSense’s web site.
“PrimeSense is bringing Natural Interaction to more than just one environment. Gaming is just the beginning of this new paradigm that is changing the way people interact and live their lives in just about every walk of life,” said Adi Berenson, Vice President of Marketing, PrimeSense. “With OpenNI, we want developers to know that the Natural Interaction ‘marketplace’ is wide open for them to show us how the future will feel.”
OpenNI is the only open standard that is setting a standard for the control of consumer electronics by Natural Interaction. OpenNI is publicly available at www.OpenNI.org.
